Welcome to my Faith led Food Tour!

Welcome!!
My name is Lily Pickett and I am a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints. I am currently serving in the California Roseville Mission!

I might be a California Girl now but I am actually from Bountiful Utah! To be called as a missionary I submitted a photo of myself and a little paragraph about me to the worldwide leaders of my church. They then prayerfully considered where I would be sent. I was really thinking somewhere like Australia, Africa, or even Mexico but God really just said "California." Can't argue with that! So, I left my home, my family, my job and my life to go and to share the light and the Gospel of Jesus Christ with people from all over the world!

Before becoming a missionary I went through the EMT progam and got my EMT license! I absolutely fell in love with being an EMT and the firefighters who were my teachers so I decided to apply for the Fire Fighting Academy. I applied not thinking I would get in but I did!! I spent the next 6 months of my life, doing push ups, crawling through ash, putting out house fires, sitting through hours of powerpoints, doing turnout drills and I wouldn't have changed a thing. Those 6 months were filled with some of the hardest, funnest, most life changing moments of my life and I will never forget them. I cannot wait till after my mission to pick up right where I left off as a firefighter and EMT!

Firefighting might be my career but food has always been my passion! I absolutely love cooking but especially baking! I started baking when I watched "Adriano Zumbo's Just Desserts" on Netflix and absolutely fell in love with all of his creations, flavor profile and techniques. From that time forwarded, baking became a part of who I was! I then started to bake myself and continued to watch baking shows which deepened my understanding and love for the Culinary Arts! Through messy kitchens, fallen cakes and pounds of butter, I began to work my way through the kitchen and that was it! My path was set and my love began!

Serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was never on my bucket list. I actually didn't really want to serve but I knew without a shadow of a doubt that this is what God wanted me to do.

Before I left, my mom, knowing how much I didn't want to go, said something that changed my perspective. She said, "Honestly Lily, your basically just going on a Food Tour for 18 months. You are going to be in a new state, surrounded by hundreds of new people with different cultures, backgounds and tastes!" She said that my love for Cooking and Baking didn't have to stop for 18 months, it could increase and expand!

That's exactly what's happened! I have already had the most incredible experiences meeting new people, hearing their inspiring testimonies of Jesus Christ, trying new foods and learning amazing recipes. Food has a way of bringing people together, and I have been able to witness this firsthand!! Especially since becoming a missionary!

These experiences have strengthed my testimony of Jesus Christ, and opened my eyes to the endless possibilities of the culinary arts. I am so excited to share my stories, recipes, and experiences with you!

Follow along with me for the next 18 months as I invite people to come unto Christ and share how Food has Fueled my Faith ❤️
